Clean energy supply for ships
The igus® e-chain reel is a motorised, reelable energy chain system that uses a special chain fitted with roller inserts to allow the socket to be flexibly positioned within a range of up to 100 m. This means that more ships can be supplied with power than with permanently installed systems. This means that more ships can be supplied than with permanently installed systems.

With the igus® solutions for shore power supply, e.g. the e-chain reel, we connect the ships to the power socket while they are berthed in the harbours - in contrast to generating energy on the ship using generators, the supply of shore power sustainably protects the environment and the health of people in the harbour area. Supplying an entire ship with electricity is a major challenge. In addition to the technical challenges of the power supply (such as the correct voltage and frequency), the place where the cables coming from the ship have to be connected also changes as the ships are constantly changing.
