The roller e-chain® of the P4.1 series makes it possible to increase system safety and availability. There is a bearing point for pivoting movement in each chain link connection. This has now been equipped with maintenance-free plain bearings made from high-performance polymers, more than doubling the service life.
Increased system safety and availability
In order to meet the increased requirements of new container ships such as the Triple-E class, new and larger STS cranes have to be built or existing ones retrofitted. In addition, the demands on the availability and reliability of the cranes are increasing. This also has an impact on the design and selection of the energy supply system.
The latest generation of e-chain® P4.1 rollers
To increase the availability and reliability of STS cranes, igus® has developed the e-chain® P4.1 rollers. Tribologically optimised plain bearings ensure lubrication-free mounting of the individual chain links. This more than doubles the service life of the chain. An optional sensor also enables predictive maintenance, which helps to further increase system availability. Highly flexible cables from the chainflex® programme complete the fail-safe solution for cranes and long travel distances. The P4.1 system is suitable for both trolley drive and longitudinal travel with travel distances of 1,000 metres and more.
Free white paper:
This white paper deals with the following topics, among others:
coefficient of friction and drive power reduced
The offset between the upper run and lower run means that the plastic rollers do not roll over each other, but instead roll past each other to enable particularly smooth running. As a result, the coefficient of friction drops and the drive power is reduced by 57 per cent.
Longer service life
Equipped with maintenance-free plain bearings in each chain link, the service life of the energy chain is more than doubled.
predictive maintenance
The new P4.1 can optionally be equipped with smart monitoring sensors. This sends a signal to the igus® i.Cee communication module when a defined wear limit is reached, enabling predictive maintenance of the roller chain to be planned.
The roller e-chain® P4.1 was tested with a travel speed of up to 8 m/s over a distance of currently 200 m, which corresponds to a 400 m long journey. The fully automated system takes into account a wide range of applications in terms of acceleration and speed. In addition to the mechanical load caused by the movement of the transfer vehicle, environmental influences have an unimpeded effect on the tested energy chain and cable.
