Technical data:

• What was needed: To automatically wash complex parts in the automotive industry after painting: This task is performed by the carousel washing system from Polish manufacturer Noyen
• Requirements: 100% lubrication and maintenance-free, withstands high humidity and high temperatures, low weight, robust, accurate positioning, easy to convert
• Products used: drylin® linear module SHT-20, with integrated dryspin® threaded spindle and lead screw nut
• Success for the customer: An important design objective was to create the possibility of simple and ergonomic manual loading. The large number of references required not only the use of suitable tools, but also the repositioning of the actuators between the references. For this purpose, a sliding mechanism with interlocking and easy operation was required. The solution had to be both lightweight, as it is built into a carousel disc, and robust. It was therefore decided to realise a new design with bearings.

NOYEN Expert C works in the final assembly line of parts that will be one of the most important components of the future vehicle. The washing process takes place after the parts are painted and before they are packaged. As most of the products manufactured in the factory have to go through this production step, the machine had to meet the requirements for easy changeover and handling of all types of parts produced. Adapting the machine to handle dozens of different product references while maintaining the condition of easy changeover, as well as developing and implementing an innovative method of washing components for which cleanliness standards did not previously exist, were the main design challenges. In conjunction with the need to adjust the system to different references, special tools were developed to enable the handling of each type of workpiece, their correct orientation during the washing process and a high repeatability of the pick-up and deposit positions required for automation processes. An important design objective was to create the possibility of easy and ergonomic manual loading. For this purpose, a sliding mechanism with a locking mechanism and simple operation was required. The solution had to be both lightweight, as it is built into a carousel disc, which requires a reduction in weight, and robust. It was therefore decided to realise a new design with bearings. As the system is located inside the washing machine, the work of the components takes place at high temperatures and high humidity. In addition, the system is exposed to shock loads from the robot or positioning inaccuracies of certain components of the complete workpiece, which can change their position under certain conditions. The system should also be easy to retool and include position visualisation to reduce possible handling errors.

The NOYEN Expert C-Series is a machine designed for the industrial washing of parts. This solution was developed for the automotive industry. It enables washing of the most complicated parts to the highest cleanliness classes. The functionality of the machine has been fully customised to the customer's requirements. The number, type and duration of processes were customised. The washing and drying processes have been optimised by adapting the positioning of the washing and drying nozzles to the geometry of the workpiece and separating the washing and rinsing chambers. The NOYEN Expert C washing machine guarantees high efficiency thanks to short cycle times of a few seconds and the simultaneous execution of all sub-processes. The machine is characterised by its compact size, so that it does not take up much space in the production hall. The machine is operated by a robot, which makes it fully automatic.

Products from igus® were used to adjust the height of the workpiece holders. They were mounted directly on the carousel that transports the parts between the processes within the machine. Two SHTtables were installed in each of the six sections. The variant used solved the problems associated with the complexity and costliness of the classic solution. At the same time, the new method is lighter and adapted to the more difficult conditions of an industrial washing plant. The advantages resulting from the implemented solution include

The finally applied solution has proven to be so good that it can be found in unchanged form in many machines operating e.g. in Mexico, China, Germany or in some devices in Poland.
