Roof turrets of large airport fire engines have to withstand intense loads while discharging water
Frankfurt Airport is Germany's largest commercial airport. It is also one of the leading international airports in Europe in terms of passenger and cargo traffic. With almost 81,000 employees in around 450 companies, it is the largest local workplace in Germany and an attractive centre of attraction for other companies in the economically important Rhine-Main region. With the high density of aircraft, commercial and private vehicles, the airport fire service is always busy. In order to comply with the legally prescribed response times, the fire service must be able to reach any location on the apron within three minutes. The personnel and technical equipment of the three fire stations located on the airport site is correspondingly important.
The more than 115 fire engines on the airport site include fourteen large airport fire engines. With their roof turrets, they can throw at least 5,300 litres of water more than 80 metres in just one minute. The load on the actuators of these roof turrets is correspondingly high, as they control the height of the water jet by changing the angle.
