Four SRU cranes at the EUROKOMBI terminal in Hamburg have been equipped with pre-assembled energy supply systems including cable and guide trough. They are the umbilical cord for smooth container handling. The product solution from igus® has proven itself to date without exception in the highly salty harbour air and heavy load on the technology due to exhaust gases.
"The pre-assembled energy supply systems from the first hour are running in all cranes without any complaints. Even during preventive maintenance a few weeks ago, no part had to be replaced. They are in very good technical and visual condition!"
Günter Baitis, Project Manager at EUROKOMBI Technical Services GmbH
The demands on energy chains for long travel distances have risen steadily in recent years. This is where the roller energy chain comes into its own. "The new development of the roller chain has enabled us to guarantee the high service life of the system during project planning. There is no longer a sliding, but a rolling movement. This reduces the pulling/pushing force and extends the service life," says Theo Diehl, summarising the key performance features of the 'Rol E-Chain'. Other advantages include the significant reduction in drive power to less than 25 % for moving the energy supply system. Travelling distances of up to 800 m and speeds of up to 10 m/s are possible. Different roller types are available; it can also be used for applications with dirt. "Right from the start, we were sure that we would be able to solve the challenging task on site with this energy supply system without any problems," summarises Theo Diehl. "And the technical condition of the energy supply system after five years of continuous operation proves us right." If the worst comes to the worst, spare parts are quickly available. Only standard parts have been used, which are on stock in Cologne and can be on site in Hamburg within a few hours.
