The "System Technology" division of the renowned spindle manufacturer FRANZ KESSLER develops and manufactures spindle swivel heads and rotary swivel tables that enable high-precision machining of metal and, increasingly, composite workpieces. For the energy and signal supply, KESSLER uses chainflex® cables from igus®, which fulfil very high requirements in terms of service life and reliability.
"Reliability is what counts for us. Our customers expect high-performance systems with a very long service life. All components - especially the moving ones - must be selected according to these criteria."
Florian Gehrmann, Product Manager Motorised Spindles & Swivel systems at KESSLER
No problems since 2003
KESSLER has been using chainflex® cable from igus® since 2003. In all this time, there have been no reports of problems or failures to the responsible design engineers. And this despite the fact that the cables in the system technology components perform heavy-duty work with intensive, short and fast rotary and linear movements and the cables are also exposed to cooling lubricants and swarf. The high abrasion resistance of the TPE jacket ensures that no wear occurs on the outer jacket, and the special bundle stranding effectively prevents deformation in the core structure, which would ultimately lead to corkscrew and core breakage.
For this reason, KESSLER always uses chainflex® cable - even in non-moving applications. Florian Gehrmann: "Reliability is what counts for us. Our customers expect high-performance systems with a very long service life. All components - especially the moving ones - must be selected according to these criteria." Under these conditions, the chainflex® cable and also the igus ® energy chain have proven themselves in the spindle swivel heads and rotary swivel tables from KESSLER - for thirteen years now.
