Silent operation in Hamburg's miniature wonderland

A E2/000 e-chain series 255 is used here in the new model airport "Knuffingen Airport", a replica of Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport and part of the neighbouring Lufthansa shipyard, the Hamburg Miniature Wonderland. On an area of 150 square metres, 360 take-offs and landings of almost 40 different aircraft can be seen every day. The aircraft lift provides the connection between the take-off and landing runway level and the floors below.

The so-called take-off and landing catapult is powered by two counter-rotating E2/000 e-chains of 255 series installed in a super aluminium trough with a damping profile. The reason for using the energy chain was its small pitch, which meant that only a very small polygon effect was achieved when rolling along the radius. The aim was also to achieve a very low-noise solution, as the e-chains should not be audible during operation, which is why the damping profile was also used in the guide trough.
