Energy chains supply 16 trolleys on 15,000t shipyard crane

A special cable routing solution had to be found for this gigantic Goliath shipyard crane. Due to the enormous cable package with its correspondingly high weight, the manufacturer decided to divide the cable load to be pulled by the 15,000 tonne crane between 16 crane trolleys.
This design feature, which is rather unusual for a value crane, helped to provide not only a realistic but also a durable solution for the cable routing. On the other hand, the manufacturer had to come up with something for the actual realisation of the guidance. The aim was to find compact systems that would fit on the crane girder, be gentle on the cables and move reliably. robust

For the realisation of this exciting large-scale project, we were able to offer our energy chain for all the trolleys. Today, 16 of our heavy-duty roller energy chains from the 4040RHDB series are travelling here. The upper run rolls almost smoothly over the lower run on 72 to 77 m long travels and reduces the required drive energy to less than 25 % compared to sliding energy chain solutions. This means that travel distances of several 100 m can be realised without any problems. Various design features of the e-chain® such as reinforced side parts or a stable square stop-dog increase the stability of the chain and protect the cable. Thanks to the strain relief installed on the cable, the strain on the cable is reduced and the service life increased.
