Internet availability on board is a decisive factor for many travellers when booking a flight. To enable a Wi-Fi connection on long-haul flights, antennas installed on the top of the aircraft fuselage are increasingly being used. Such an antenna establishes a connection to a nearby satellite, which in turn establishes the connection between the aircraft and a ground station. The distance between the satellite and the aircraft is around 35,000 kilometres and both objects are moving at high speed. In order to receive signals, the antennas must constantly adjust their position in a rotating motion. With tribologically optimised slewing ring bearings, igus® has the ideal component in its range to ensure that the rotation functions reliably over the long term.
