In order to provide information about the behaviour of cables in a vertical hanging energy chain, Cologne-based igus® GmbH investigated this issue in its in-house test laboratory. To this end, four chainflex® cables were tested in an E4 series energy chain over a period of 10 days with a travel of 5 metres. At the end of the test and after 222,776 test cycles, no significant wear was detected on the cables. The following statements can therefore be made on the basis of this test:
The cables must be set to 100% so that they do not jam in the radius or become wedged together
The strain reliefs should be double and with a maximum of two cables per clamp (CFXL) to prevent the cables from slipping.
The use of cables with a TPE outer jacket is recommended
