Retractable thrusters are used as primary propulsion systems or for dynamically positioning working vessels such as pipe-layers. While they are being extended and retracted from the ship's hull, some have to be fed with hydraulics or water and, above all, with motor cables. To guide the cables safely, we have energy chains in our product range that are ideal for this purpose thanks to their robust plastic material and space-saving design. They are resistant to salt water, oil and UV light and are superior to steel energy chains due to their comparatively low weight and corrosion resistance.
In addition to individual energy chains and a variety of cables certified for offshore use, we also offer harnessed energy chains. Equipped with cables and connectors, they reduce installation and assembly time.
Our engineering team designs guide troughs and system interfaces for cables and hoses and includes them in the CAD model during planning. They work in close cooperation with our customers to build an energy chain system that is reliable and maintenance-free.
On a surveying and drilling vessel, the to use a retractable engine led to a design problem: many cables for supplying power to the heavy propulsion systems had to be guided close to the engine in as compact a way as possible. The solution was E4.1 series energy chains as multiband chains with robust chainflex cables. The chains are compact and, together with the internal cables, can also cope with tight bend radii. Strain relief elements on the cables provide additional support and ensure a long service life.
