Conventional roller guides in particular often have both mechanical and economic disadvantages in linear actuators. For example, their rigidity is very low. They are susceptible to high moment loads and only allow limited acceleration. In addition, maintenance work is usually time-consuming and costly. guide systems with plastic elements put an end to these problems and offer the user many other advantages.
All igus® guidance is characterised in particular by its simple design, robustness and compact construction, the design focus of the entire "LCB". This results in a low moving dead mass due to the glide shoes and the slim slider plate as well as a wide guide base in the immediate vicinity of the load. Speeds can reach up to 8 m/s, unrestricted acceleration is possible. Last but not least, the actuator is highly resistant to chemicals and corrosion. Perhaps the most important advantage of the guide system, however, is its cost-effectiveness.
This is due on the one hand to the favourable purchase price and on the other hand to the minimal operating costs, as drylin® operates maintenance-free even in harsh environments. As lubrication is not required, the guide system does not attract dirt and does not contaminate the overall system with escaping grease or oil. Expensive machine downtimes are a thing of the past. Additional protection or wipers are also unnecessary, which reduces the number of components to be fitted and further cuts costs. Lindemann: "At least twelve skate wheels need to be pre-assembled, fitted and adjusted for our roller guides, whereas only four glides are required for the guide system. The working time alone for assembling the guide system is reduced to an estimated 10 per cent." The user can simply replace the sliding pads themselves within a few minutes when they reach the wear limit. According to Lindemann, even pneumatic and servo-pneumatic solutions can be advantageously replaced, whereby the improved positionability at any point is also decisive here: "Actuators with linear plain bearings can even make some linear motor versions look pale in comparison if it is not so much the accuracy that is important, but the lower energy consumption during oscillating movements. This is due to the significantly lower moving masses."
