Tech up with the dryspin technology

High efficiency and low wear

The patented dryspin high helix thread technology was developed in-house by igus in 2013 and offers numerous advantages over conventional high helix threads. Due to the flat flank angle, they efficiently convert the applied force into a translational movement. With the specifications and geometries matched to the plastic nut and lead screw, dryspin offers even greater service life and efficiency for high helix threads. Thanks to the rounded tooth flank geometry, the contact surface between the lead screw and lead screw nut is reduced and the lead screw drives run almost quietly and vibration-free under load.

The larger distances between the individual dryspin threads increase the proportion (factor 1.3) of tribologically optimised polymer in the threads. More wear-resistant material and a higher degree of efficiency are decisive for a service life that is up to 5 times longer than that of conventional high helix threads.

Thread rolling: Our standard

A workpiece is placed in the centre between two tools with a profile. These rotate simultaneously and the thread is cold-formed into the surface of the raw material. The thread profile is transferred to the workpiece by the compressive stress and rotation. The thread is finished

Thread whirling: for special dimensions

Thread whirling requires only one tool. This is ring-shaped and is clamped around the corresponding workpiece. This rotates very slowly, while the whirling tool rotates at very high speed on the outside. The thread is created by inward-facing cutting tools.
