How does polymer coating with iglidur® work?
iglidur® iglidur® coating is a tribologically optimised polymer in powder form that can be applied to metallic surfaces by powder coating. Like all iglidur® materials, iglidur® coating powders are tribologically optimised and therefore offer excellent friction and wear values. This allows you to protect even highly stressed surfaces from wear - without any additional components.
Our iglidur® coating materials are made up of base polymers, fibres, fillers and solid lubricants. The composition of these components is individual for each of the coating materials in order to optimise it for its respective area of application.
How do the various iglidur® coating materials differ?
The various iglidur® coatings have been optimised for a wide range of applications. They differ mainly in their temperature resistance, their sliding and wear properties and their colour. The exact material data can be found in our material data sheets.
We subject our iglidur® bearing and coating materials to over 10,000 different application-related tests every year in order to analyse the wear behaviour in the most diverse application scenarios. This enables us to select the optimum and most cost-effective material for your application and to advise you comprehensively on your project.
There is no minimum quantity if you have your component coated by igus®. This means that the coating of a single component can be ordered.
Yes, you can also coat your components yourself with our iglidur® materials. In our online shop you can obtain various iglidur® coating materials, which are available in the container sizes 1 kg, 2 kg and 10 kg. If you have any questions regarding the choice of material or coating, please feel free to contact our experts.
Our overhead conveyors allow component sizes of up to 8 x 2.3 x 1.9 metres. Small components are coated in correspondingly efficient small systems. We will be happy to advise you and offer you the most favourable processing method for you.
Yes, we can carefully mask the areas that do not need to be coated according to your specifications. For larger quantities, we manufacture appropriate devices that minimise process costs.
What layer thicknesses and tolerances do we achieve with iglidur® coating?
The iglidur® coating gliding layer can be applied with a thickness of approx. 60-120 µm. Other layer thicknesses may also be possible, depending on the material and surface quality of the parts to be coated.
In principle, subsequent processing of the coating is possible.
The surface should be cleaned and free of dust, dirt or liquids. We will gladly carry out the necessary processing steps for you.
The so-called cross-cut according to DIN EN ISO 2409 is intended to enable an estimation of the adhesive strength (adhesion) of coatings (for example a painted surface). The test method is not used to measure the adhesion strength. For this purpose, the pull-off test according to DIN EN ISO 4624 is to be used.
The evaluation is carried out using key figures from 0 to 5, where 0 represents the best rating "very good". All iglidur® coating materials (IC01, IC03, IC06) fulfil the criterion 0.
The material iglidur® IC-05 is FDA and EU10/2011 compliant and can therefore be used, for example, in the food industry, beverage bottling or packaging industry.
