Moisture absorption

The very low moisture absorption of 0.1 % by weight in normal climatic conditions and 0.3 % by weight maximum water absorption also enables continuous use in high humidity or in liquid media.

Mechanical specification
The compressive strength ofiglidur® L500 plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. diagram. 02 illustrates this correlation. The maximum recommended surface pressure represents a mechanical material parameter. Conclusions on the tribology cannot be drawn from this.

Diagram 03 shows the elastic deformation of iglidur® L500 under different loads. At the recommended maximum surface pressure of 70MPa the deformation is less than 2.5% at room temperature. A plastic deformation can be negligible up to this value. It is however also dependent on the duty cycle of the load.

Permissible sliding speeds
iglidur® L500 has been developed precisely for high sliding speeds at low loads. Due to the high temperature resistance of iglidur® L500, the physical limit, which is given by the bearing heating, is shifted very far upwards. In addition, the very low wear allows the high sliding distances quickly achieved at high circumferential speeds. Table 03 shows the maximum speeds.

Friction and wear
The very good coefficient of friction of iglidur® L500 in dry operation decreases again significantly with speed. diagram. 04 shows this relationship on a steel shaft. The coefficient of friction also decreases with increasing load, especially in the range up to 20 MPa (diagram. 05).

Shaft materials
diagram. 06 shows the result of a comparison test betweeniglidur® L500 and a sintered bearing. The wear of the sintered bearing increases exponentially beyond 1.5 m/s, while the iglidur® L500 bearings can maintain an almost identical wear rate up to over 4 m/s.

Further specification
Radioactive radiation bearingsmade from iglidur® L500 are radiation-resistant up to a radiation intensity of 3 - 102 Gy. Higher radiation attacks the material and may lead to a noticeable reduction in the mechanical specification values.

UV resistanceThematerial properties of iglidur® L500 plain bearings do not change under UV radiation and other weather influences.

VacuumIna vacuum,any moisture present is released. However, due to the low total moisture absorption, use in a vacuum is possible.

Installation tolerances
iglidur® L500 bearings are standard bearings for shafts with tolerance (recommended minimum h9). The bearings are designed to be pressed into an H7-toleranced mounting; after installation in a mounting with nominal dimensions, the inner diameter of the bearing with F10 tolerance adjusts itself. For certain dimensions, the tolerance deviates from this depending on the wall thickness (see product range).
