Torsion cables for use in three-dimensional applications with a high proportion of torsion
Increasingly complex motion sequences in industrial applications require torsion-resistant and/or three-dimensionally movable cables with a service life similar to that of classic chainflex® cables. A moving robot arm, for example, generates high bending, centrifugal and torsional forces in a robot cable. The chainflex® robot cables from igus® GmbH are specially designed and tested for these special stresses.
A wide range of torsion-resistant chainflex® CFROBOT cables are available, such as shielded single cores, motor cables, servo cables, measuring system cables, bus cables as well as hybrid and control cables. In contrast to conventional braiding copper shields, the CFROBOT generally uses a torsion-resistant, tinned copper shield covering.
In addition to high alternating bending loads, core, stranded structures, shields and sheath materials must also compensate for changes in cable diameter caused by torsional movements. Filling elements that can absorb forces such as torsion are used for this purpose. PTFE elements and rayon threads are used for this purpose.
This "mechanical stress" differs greatly between a cable in a linear e-chain system® and a cable that is exposed to bending, torsional and centrifugal forces. This cannot usually be determined in advance. The igus® "Torsion test standard" was developed for this purpose. This standard allows a reproducible evaluation based on meaningful test results. All CFROBOT cables are torsion tested at least 5 million times with a fixed point distance of one metre.
