The Module Connect is the concept of a new type of plug-in connector for connecting electrical cables, fibre optic cables and pneumatic hoses. As a cable connector, our modular plug-in connector is characterised by a space-saving, flat housing and is used wherever several or a large number of cables need to be connected in the smallest possible space. The Module Connect won the reddot design award in 2018.

One connector module instead of many individual connectors

Thanks to the simple modular principle, an individual plug-in/disconnection point can be configured as a module from several connector housings. Each housing can be fitted with up to four different connector inserts.

The housings can then be joined together, allowing almost unlimited module variations in individual widths and heights. Thanks to the flat housing type, the Module Connect is very space-saving and enables a high contact density for every application.

Module Connect in the packaging industry

Module Connect ensures fast maintenance in the packaging industry

In case of maintenance, igus has provided a plug-and-play system to enable quick maintenance. Previously, maintenance work took about four hours, which could often only be carried out by two employees. Thanks to the new interface concept, the Module Connect from igus, changing the energy supply is now reduced to approx. 45 minutes by just one person.

GHD Hartmann is one of the first customers to use the Module Connect connector. End customers of GHD Hartmann easily replace the energy supply with the plug-in connector from the modular system.

Module Connect ensures fast commissioning of the energy supply system in the wood-working industry

The challenge for our customer in this project in particular was that the path of the cables through the machine from the consumer unit to the control cabinet amounts to 100 metres. This creates logistical challenges in the event of service, where there is planned or unplanned downtime.

The readychain complete solution offers the customer the greatest advantages in this application. We have a fully harnessed energy chain, including the plug-and-play interface solution Module Connect for their machines.

Module Connect adapter avoids long downtimes in automatic parking systems

Wherever fast reaction times are required, e.g. in the event of a fault, the Module Connect adapter ensures fast connection of the energy supply system to the machine and avoids long downtimes.

An example is an automatic parking system that weighs and measures the car and then moves it to a suitable parking position.

Applications in energy supply systems

Where the automation of machines and industrial plant is concerned, there is a whole series of different reasons to decide in favour of pre-assembled energy supply systems.

Manufacturing costs decrease, sources of errors are practically excluded. Less project planning work is needed whereas reliability increases. Possible areas of use are in assembly/installation engineering and handling technology, in conveyor technology or in mechanical engineering.

Modular plug-in connector for energy chains

Connect your energy supply with just ONE connector

The connector modules can be adapted to the filling and geometry of the e-chain in one or more layers. This enables optimal cabling in terms of function and design for every application.

In combination with the universal strain relief from igus, secure fastening directly in the connector housing is possible. The soft elements used enclose the cable and hold it securely in place without damaging it. Visually modelled on honeycombs, the flexible structure adapts to different cable diameters, creating universal strain relief.

Our modular connector, also known as a quick connector, can be used in a variety of ways, for example at the chain's fixed end or moving end, between two energy chains or for inserting cables into terminal boxes or switch cabinets.
