Heavy loads, long operating times, a wide range of weather conditions - cranes in harbour facilities have to deliver top performance. And this is exactly where our energy chain and flexible cables are used. They have been proving their worth in more than 10,000 harbours for years thanks to their corrosion-resistant, maintenance-free materials and long service lives. Applications include ship-to-shore cranes, bulk handling cranes, RTGs, RMGs, Goliath cranes, spreaders and reach stackers. Where there is deadline pressure and safety must be guaranteed, e-chain® is a reliable, low-maintenance and quieter alternative to busbar systems, festoonig and motorised drums.
A P4.1 series roller energy chain is in operation at the port of Rotterdam, one of the largest handling ports for bulk goods in Western Europe. Despite 24/7 continuous operation and a travel distance of over 100 metres, it works without incident on the huge ship-to-shore crane and has completed over 9,000 operating hours to date.
Fourteen container gantry cranes at HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) have been equipped with energy chains to supply the gantry cranes with power and signals.
To the application exampleThe Vietnamese manufacturer Tan Cang Gantry relies on completely lubrication-free and maintenance-free TX high-load bearings in the chassis of its new RTG cranes.
To the application exampleWith travel distances of more than 400 metres in some cases, 12 ship-to-shore cranes in Antwerp were equipped with robust heavy-duty energy chains.
To the application exampleAs this harbour is located in the immediate vicinity of a residential area, a crane was equipped with the fail-safe and low-noise P4 roller energy chain.
To the application exampleFor the crane boom of this STS crane, e-chain® replaces the previously used festooning system and saves the operator time and money.
To the application exampleBy replacing the old cable routing with our P4-energy chain, the crane's downtime has been increased, the chain now runs more quietly and wear has been significantly reduced.
To the application exampleFor the high-speed trolley drive, a safe and failure-free roller energy chain was used for energy and data transmission.
To the application exampleThey are designed for the overhead movement of loads within a building, e.g. in production and assembly halls: Overhead cranes. Low downtimes, low maintenance requirements and the functional safety of the system are desirable from an economic point of view, but also with regard to occupational safety. Our energy supplies are developed for different operating conditions, but also for the various standards of the international markets. Always optimally designed, as a complete system or individual component and with a predictable service life.
In Thyssen Krupp's Duisburg hot rolling mill, a slab transport crane from BANG Kransysteme GmbH & Co KG is responsible for handling the slabs at the interface between the steelworks and rolling mill - in heat and dust. The energy and signal supply to the trolley and the cabin is ensured by "Heavy Duty"-energy chain from igus®, which were supplied as pre-assembled readychain® basic systems.
Robust E4-energy chains with built-in maintenance sensors have been in continuous operation at Carpenter for 15 years without a hitch.
To the application exampleThis indoor crane had an extremely low clearance height. Our preassembled energy chain solution made it possible to create 50 % more storage space.
To the application exampleIn this crane system for storing and retrieving sewage sludge in a cement works, an energy chain proves its worth thanks to its flexibility, variability and space-saving installation.
To the application exampleAt the waste incineration plant in Eschweiler, the existing trailing cables were replaced by an energy chain that was developed for use in harsh environmental conditions.
To the application examplePlastic energy chain systems for supplying energy to the process cranes have been proving their worth in this hot-dip galvanising plant under high acid loads for several years.
To the application exampleThese three cranes are used to transport containers of molten metal in a foundry. The hot environment and high levels of contamination placed special demands on the cable routing.
To the application exampleOur e-chain® really comes into its own in this indoor crane application: Even under the heavy load of dust and hot metal chips, there have been no failures in three years.
To the application exampleThe motorised cable drums on this coil crane required a great deal of maintenance. They were therefore replaced by our e-spool® system.
To the application exampleThis crane transports billets in a steelworks using a magnetic lifting beam. To supply power to the slewing gear, the developers used an e-chain® from the triflex® series instead of the previous conductor rail.
To the application exampleIn a waste disposal company in Belgium, the trailing cables in two travelling cranes have been replaced with our e-chain®.
To the application exampleIn the harsh environment of concrete processing, energy supply contributes to the stability and reliable operation of indoor cranes.
To the application exampleThe manufacturer Piedmont Hoist and Crane in the USA opted for the convenient guidefast modular guide trough system for an overhead crane.
To the application exampleShipyard cranes are usually characterised by their high load capacities and long travel distances of the trolleys, which can easily reach up to 200 m in length. With high cable weights, the energy chain must always work reliably and protect the guided cables. At the same time, compact and space-saving solutions are also required, especially in shipyards.
To meet these requirements, we offer our customers a comprehensive portfolio of heavy-duty energy chains, cables and guide troughs for long travel distances and high weights.
For this 900 tonne shipyard crane, the operator previously relied on a cable tender system to guide the cables to the trolleys. As the tension on the cables led to high maintenance requirements over time, the decision was made to replace it with an energy chain system. Since then, two heavy-duty roller energy chains from the 5050RHD series have been in use.
At the Navantia shipyard, the old Goliath cranes had to be repaired after 40 years of operation. The former line rope tender system was replaced with a modern energy chain system within a very short space of time.
Go to user reportTwo trolleys were fitted with our e-chain® and chainflex® cable rollers for a single-girder Goliath crane. One of the energy chains moves a cable weight of 61 kg/m.
Go to user reportSpecially designed for large-scale projects, the two heavy-duty roller energy chains reliably supply two trolleys with energy - over a travel of 122 metres.
To the application example16 crane trolleys travel on this gigantic Goliath crane with a load capacity of 15,000 tonnes. Our roller energy chains ensure safe cable routing.
To the application exampleThree shipyard cranes are currently in operation at the southern harbour in the Pudong area of Shanghai. The energy and data supply to the gigantic lifting elements is realised via our plastic energy chain systems.
To the application exampleBulk goods cranes place extreme demands on cable solutions in many respects: While the transport routes for bulk goods can be several hundred metres long, all components must be able to withstand outdoor weather conditions all year round. However, the high dirt and dust load when transporting ore, sand or gravel, for example, also requires energy chains that are highly robust, corrosion-resistant, maintenance-free and have a long service life.
A lot of dust is created during the mining and subsequent storage of bauxite, which poses a major challenge, especially for the moving machine parts of the conveyor units. The operator therefore decided to use our plastic-energy chains. They have been reliably supplying conveyor units and stockpiling equipment with energy, data and media for several years now.
In this steel factory, a plastic-energy chain replaces a previously used vulnerable metal chain at the unloading station for raw metal and scrap metal.
Go to user reportAs part of the conversion work at the Baltic Sea port of Wismar, a ship loader that was previously used exclusively for loading potash was converted for handling various bulk goods.
To the application exampleIn Malaysia, two roller energy chains with a travel distance of 441.3 metres are working for two enormous bulk material cranes for coal transport.
To the application exampleIn a taconite mine in the USA, a low-maintenance plastic energy chain was installed on a conveyor system for the rock with a travel distance of 550 metres.
To the application exampleIn a Czech lignite-fired power station, the stacker is reliably supplied with energy, data and media along a 615 metre long travel path using a plastic energy chain.
To the application exampleFor an international customer, we have realised the world's longest travel distance with a roller energy chain on two bucket wheel excavators.
To the application exampleA robust e-loop® energy supply system is used for the safe and low-maintenance energy supply to the spreader of this bucket wheel excavator for mining chalk.
To the application exampleCrane systems and cable guides used outdoors must be protected from harsh environmental conditions in particular. High resistance to corrosion, strong wind and abrasion of the often unprotected energy supply guarantee a long service life and continuous planning reliability in daily operation.
In a huge sludge processing plant in Antwerp, a plastic-energy chain guarantees a high downtime of the plant with a high filling weight.
To the application exampleThe railway technology supplier "Corus Rail" has replaced the existing festoonings on the indoor and outdoor cranes in its steelworks with our energy chain.
To the application exampleThis crane trolley on a retreaded crane girder travels outdoors. The bearing of the running wheels should therefore be as maintenance-free and weather-resistant as possible.
