Even at higher sliding speeds, the coefficient of friction for iglidur® W300plain bearings does not increase. Slightly higher sliding speeds can therefore be achieved compared to other materials, for example up to 1.5 m/s rotating and up to 5 m/s linear. Due to the exceptional wear resistance, the bearing wear remains low even during prolonged use at high speeds. iglidur® W300 bearings achieve particularly high speeds on hardened, not too smooth shafts.
m/s | Rotating | Oscillating | linear |
---|---|---|---|
permanent | 1 | 0.7 | 4 |
Short-term | 2.5 | 1.8 | 6 |
Like the wear resistance, the coefficient of friction μ also changes with the load. Unlike the other iglidur®materials, the coefficient of friction of iglidur® W300 remains constantly low even at higher circumferential speeds.

Shaft materials
Friction and wear are also highly dependent on the mating partner. Shafts that are too smooth increase both the coefficient of friction and the wear of the bearing. Smooth shafts harbour the risk of stick-slip. Squeaking as an effect of stick-slip is usually the result of shafts that are too smooth. Shaft roughness of 0.4 to 0.5 μm has proven to be the best. At iglidur® W300 in particular, the wear resistance with this surface finish is still very good, while the friction is at its lowest. diagram. 06 shows an extension of the results of tests with different shaft materials. Hardened shafts are preferable, especially for higher loads. If your intended shaft material is not included in the test results presented here, please contact us.
Shaft materials
iglidur® W300-plain bearings are standard bearings for shafts with h-tolerance (recommended minimum h9). The bearings are designed to be pressed into an H7-toleranced mounting. After installation in a mounting with nominal dimensions, the inner diameter of the bearing automatically adjusts to tolerance E10; for certain dimensions, the tolerance deviates from this depending on the wall thickness (see product range).
