Short stroke - with or without support
igus® e-chain® can be used unsupported to a limited extent if they are used rotated by 90°. The unsupported length on the side depends on the factors:
The higher the additional load of the e-chain® , the shorter the unsupported length. The chain width corresponds to the height at 90° rotation. Greater heights and smaller bend radii result in greater stability. If a movement in a second axis is added to the parallel movement of the two chain centres, the unsupported length is impaired. For applications with low loads, normal fastening and support by the standard connecting elements is sufficient. If, for example, the additional load and the unsupported length are higher, the e-chain® must be fully or partially supported. Due to the large number of possible applications, please contact us for advice on your individual case.
Long distances, sliding
Traverse paths of 100 m and more can be realised lying on their side with igus® e-chain® and corresponding guidance. All chain types are designed so that they can be operated sliding on their side parts. The sliding partner can be a igus® plastic, stainless steel or galvanised steel, depending on the requirements for travel speed and service life. Roller and ball bearings or additional sliding elements are not required for igus® e-chain®. The diagram below shows the principle of a igus® guide trough.
Cable and hose
Cables and hoses must be guided in such a way that they can move freely in the e-chain® at all times. The igus® modular system offers numerous options for this, for example spacers. Ask for a free project planning for your application.
